GBCH PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES

Palliative care is care for people of all ages with a life limiting illness. It aims to optimise an individual’s quality of life until death by addressing the person’s physical, psychological, spiritual and cultural needs and supporting the individual’s family, whanau and other carers where needed through the illness and after the death.

Health NZ provides nursing support services for palliative care, both in the community and at Golden Bay Community Health. The GBCH District Nurses (03) 525 0103 have palliative care training and experience to provide case management and care co-ordination for patients coping with terminal illness. 

PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Palliative Care Home Nursing for advice, someone to listen, nursing care if needed, liaison with health services.

Telephone Advice 24 hours, 7 days per week from Golden Bay Community Health (03) 525 0100.

After-hours Nursing support 24 hours, 7 days per week (will be arranged when necessary).

Equipment Loan - some equipment is held in Nelson but can be obtained if and when required.

Brochures - information, books and tapes available.

Specialist Medical Advice and inpatient care with support from the Nelson Region Hospice.
